Match report Upminster won the toss and batted first on the astro pitch at Coopers School, which played well with a consistent bounce and pace and carry on the ball. The openers applied themselves well against the new ball and Neil Sutton in particular played some fine drives when the opportunity presented itself. The introduction of Andy Jenner at first change kept things in check and he made the breakthrough with the score on 72 and his consistent line, length and varaition did not allow the batsmen to settle. He then took the key wicket of Sutton who chipped a catch to Gurjit Jutla at mid off for an excellent 49, and backed by good catching from stand in 'keper Chris Lamb and the other fielders he proceeded to take the next five wickets to leave the innings rocking at 120 for 7. Good resistance came from Mat Jones with 33 but he hit Ian Greenwood's first ball to cover and the final two wickets fell quickly for an all out score of 147. Jenner's tour de force was 18.5 overs 8 maidens 8 wickets for 29 runs, and Greenwood chipped in with 2 for 4 off 3 overs, Chris Lamb pouching three catches.
Ian Greenwood and Ammar Zahid began steadily and had 42 on the board before Greenwood nicked one to the 'keeper. Ammar (back from holiday) knocked the ball around with the occasional powerful drive and was rarley in trouble and with Ahmad Butt added 69 before the latter was caught. Chris Lamb hit a breezy 13 and Ammar was stumped for a well played 58 just before the target was reached but the result had never been in doubt at any stage of the innings and the win was achieved with 14 overs left. This was another good team performance from Park; next week it is another local Derby at Hornchurch away.
