Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club CCC CUP v SOUTH HAMPSTEAD on Sun 14 Jun 2009 at 1.30
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 21 runs
Match report
Park had an ultimately comfortable win by 21 runs in this well contested 2nd round match played on an excellent pitch at Gallows Corner on a sunny Sunday. Winning the toss and batting, Park lost Russell Collard with the score at 12 but Babar Choudhary and James Evans tthen put on 115 for the 2nd wicket to lay the foundations of a useful and competitve total. Babar hit seven 4s and a six in an excellent knock, and Evans four 4s. The innings finished with a flourish as Greg churchill and Rudi Filmalter added an unbroken 54 for the 8th wicket, with the latter taking 20 off the last over in the process. Best of the bowlers for the visitors was B Akram with 3 for 30 off six overs.
The South Hampstead reply lost early wickets to a strong and accurate spell from Ejaz Khan, and Babar Choudhary nipped in with a wicket also as they reached 47 for 3. At this popint a stand of 110 from opener Sialvi, who went on to make an excellent 102 before being 8th out at the death, and Ranger kept the visitors well in the Hunt, albeit just off the pace required. Rudi Filmalter made the breakthrough by having Ranger LBW, and despite the best efforts of Sialvi, the medium pace of Russell Collard and the returning Ejaz Khan chipped away at the batsmen so that the result proved beyond them, Park winning by 21 runs. Khan finished with the excellent figures of 3 for 22 off 9 overs and Collard 3 for 37 off 8 overs.
Next up in this competition Park meet Finchley away on 21 June in the quarter finals.
