Colchester and East Essex CC Chairman Andrew Kennedy has sent us this note and we are very pleased to publicise it as a really worthy cause:
"One of our playing members, Rob George, was diagnosed with Leukaemia in June 2011. Rob is the son of Pip, who is the President of Colchester and East Essex Cricket Club and Chairman of the SNEL, and Lorraine, who runs Colchester's leading dance school - 'The Lorraine George School of Dancing'.
Rob has a fantastic future as a cricketer and had just made is 1st XI Saturday debut prior to his diagnosis. The last 2 years have been full of ups and downs for the George family, but now the point has been reached where Rob needs a bone marrow transplant to save his life. Unfortunately to date a match has not been found within his family nor from a very extensive worldwide database.
The club has therefore decided to run a recruitment event to serve two purposes. Firstly to raise awareness of the Anthony Nolan Trust (www.anthonynolan.org ) who are the charity that first set up the bone marrow donor database and secondly to get people to sign up to the register in the hope that one day they will save someone's life as a bone marrow donor.
Details of the recruitment event are in the attached flier - you have to be between the ages of 16 and 30 to be able to register.
Please find the time to attend and register as a donor at the event as you could be saving someones like Rob's life.
Please forward to any friends, family and local organisations as the more people we can get signed up the greater the chance there is of finding a match for Rob or someone else just as needy!
