Sunday’s away fixture against Frenford was given a little extra spice after GP&R’s defeat by them at Loughton earlier in the month.
Losing the toss and fielding, Gidea Park and Romford were soon amongst the wickets with our opening bowlers making skillful use of the cross-breeze. After eight overs, Frenford had lost seven wickets, the wickets being shared by Henry (1), Liam (2) and by Robbie who bowled extremely well, picking up four. This opening onslaught was backed up by some tight bowling by Leah, James and Freddie (1 wicket), whilst Ibrahim picked up his first wickets for the club.
With Connor leading by example, the entire team fielded well (last Friday’s fielding drills paying dividend), with Henry picking up two catches (his first being a contender for catch of the season), whilst behind the stumps Alex claimed his first victim during another good display of wicket-keeping.
Freddie, Ibrahim and James got GP&R’s reply off to a typically busy start which was followed by a solid partnership from Leah and Alex, laying the foundations for the fireworks from Liam and Robbie which followed. At a run a ball, this partnership took the game away from Frenford, leaving Connor and Henry to see the team home.
It was an outstanding performance from the team with everyone contributing to a very good and well deserved victory.
