Chelmsford/Leigh on Sea v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 04 May 2002 at 2pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Lost Lost by 20 runs
Match report
Park lost this 2nd Round Essex league match against Chelmsford at Chelmer Park by 20 runs.On a day when the match was to be decided by who bowled the most bad balls.A total of 120 whilst gettable with our batting line up was always going to be a stiff test and when dreyer produced an oustanding opening spell of 7-4-3-1 backed up by tight bowling of Foster Churchill and Collard and Montgomery the wickets fell at a steady rate.
Hatton and Iliffe proved stubbon and some lusty blows from the Australian saw those extra 20 runs be decisive.
Park lost Collard first ball of the innings and although Churchill and Sweeney tried to patient the bowling of Hatton and normally innocuos leg cutters of Eddie Lawrence became almost unplayble and the rate increases as did the impatient and frustration of both batsmen who finally succumbed.Park lost stedy wickets and finally exited the league cup by 20 runs.
Whilst as a club we knew what to expect, have no complaints, and the wicket was the same for both sides it seems a shame that a wicket can be so decisive in the result and not the players ability ................!
