Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Under 16's v Colchester & East Sussex on Mon 29 Jul 2002 at 2pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Lost 6 wickets
Match report
Park went out of the Matchplay tournament but the boys should feel proud of the way they performed this year. A young side with a fair share of 14 year olds gave an excellent account of themselves and were well led by Phil Goldstone and some of the older lads.
Park won the toss and built an innings around Opener Craig Bray who batted with superb determination and concentration to score 65 in 35 overs in the searing heat. Well done Craig (I must tell you about the tradition about buying a jug when you get your first 50!!!). Billy Payne who has been batting well for the undr 15s stepped up to make his debut with a superb quickfire 36. The middle order stutterd a bit but good intelligent batting from Jon Roberts saw parl get to 165.
No opposition had scored more than 110 against Park this season so Park had every reason to feel confident in defending that total. Early breakthroughs from Toogood and Sammons had Park moving in the right direction. I don't want to say too much more about the Colchester reply but they did do a good job in getting the runs.
Thanks to Phil sammons for umpiring this season and special thanks to Bob Coombe for "taking the trouble". The boys were always well prepared and didn't want for anything. Thanks Bob. Finally thanks to the Boys for trying so damn hard and putting in the performances. The attitude is there... a bit more experience and we will be a serious force in this next year!!!
