Match report Richard Whatling and waheed Khan guide Park to what could be their most important victory of the season so far.
With all the rain Thursday and Friday it was always going to be a bowler friendly wicket at South Woodford. Winning the toss Gidea Park invited their hosts to bat first but after 7 overs South Woodford were running away at 5 an over with Butt and Akram punishing anything short or loose.. With little pace in the wicket the Park bowlers soon realised a tight line and length was more the order of the day and the conditions did the rest.
With the new ball wearing and now swinging and seaming wickets began to fall a regular intervals. Andy Clarke led the way bowling from start to finish. The runs dried up and with added pressure and great catching the home side were bowled out for 139. Clarke finishing with 5-60 and Montgomery a fine short spell to get rid off the tail of 3-7.
With rain clouds building and the wicket detirorating (dodgy spelling) 140 was not going to be an easy score to chase. Park soon lost Hyam,Hussain and Churchill but a gutsy stance between Leigh Davey and Russ Collard was to steady the ship ............However with early tea taken Park lost momentum and lost Davey straight after tea to Janjua bouncer and he was soon to claim Redwood LBW for his 5th wicket in a great spell. Up stepped Richard Whatling and Waheed Khan.. Richard with fine stroke play and sensible approach set about reducing the needed total and with earnest support from Khan the total came down. Khan decided the tempo needed to be increased and with a 6 and a 4 in successive balls the toatl came down to a boundary needed.Khan was to launch the next ball for 4 to see Park home for another victory and very valuable 20 points to carry the defending champions some 31 points clear.
