Match report
Gidea got off to a steady start with Leigh Davey making his league debut. Leigh was dismissed by Tim Smith, who belying his age managed to bowl the whole innings, for 13 stumped.Barry was next to go unfortunately caught at mid wicket for 35.Mel Hussain and inform Andy Churchill added 56 for the next wicket before Hussain fell also to Smith for 11. Andy continued his fine rich vein of form passing 50 but with minimal contributions from others partnerships were formed and a reasonable target started to look possible.Russ Collard 11 bowled by Smith and Ben Montgomery elevated to 7 and produced some lusty blows before falling to Smith in the deep . Andy ending on a magnificent 92 not out allowing Park to set a reasonable score.
Ben Montgomery and Leigh Davey opened up and it was Davey who struck removing Sparrow for 4 LBW. This was followed by the brilliant catch by Barry Hyam to dismiss JOe Holland off Leigh for 12. Andy Churchill then removed ex Worcester batsman Elliot Wilson for 10. Ecclestone and Gladwin forged a partnership of 47 before the introduction of Mel Hussain bought the break through so badly needed. The pressure applied by park started to frustrate the opposition. Steve plumb was then bowled by Hussain before he claimed the vital wicket of Ecclestone very well caught in the deep by Richard Whatling for 57. A frustarting innings form Grinonneau of 53 saw Walden to a draw when the door was there for a chance of victory. A hard contested game saw a draw.
It was a good hard fought game to start a league title defence and acknowledging the standards we have to set ourselves
