CHINGFORD v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 01 Jul 2006 at 1.30pm
Match was Drawn
Match report
On the hottest weekend so far Park won the toss and decided to bat first on a ground where historically the pitches crumble and dust up for the spinners to take advantage of. Well, that was'nt quite the case as the pitch was as hard as concrete and played like the M25 all day! Parks excellent batting performance was born out of a wonderful recovery job done principally by Jimmy Patient who despite suffering with a stomach bug which I'm sure gave him some anxious moments behind, scored a fantastic century (126), a truely wonderful effort and great to watch. Patient had good support from Evans (42) who looked in tremendous touch before being trapped LBW, Chouhan (34) Brant (24) and Wall (28) with the innings being declared at 287 for 7.
Park took the old ball to try and influence the result, however Alston (85) and Runciman (49) looked in control and the tactics were changed. After removing the openers, wckets fell at regular intervals and Chingford looked for the win all the way through, until the penultimate over and settled for a draw at 278 for 8 with Wall bagging 4 - 63.
