UPMINSTER 6TH v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI on Sat 17 Jul 2010 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 6 wickets
Match report
It was a pleasure to play on the astro pitch at Coopers School in this local Derby, a true surface after the poor conditions of last week. Park had five changes from the previous week and a mixture of colts and adults, whilst Upminster had an even higher proportion of colts and having won the toss they elected to bat, but were quickly up against it against some accurate bowling from colt Mueez Qureshi and veteran Andy Jenner. The former made the breakthrough when skipper Jenner held a fine one handed catch at mid on, and followed up by bowling the number three. Jenner took two wickets, one a good catch at cover by Liam Neal, and the innings was in some disarray at 40 for 4. Despite some resistance from the middle order, colt Josh Turner held a caught and bowled and the spinners Ian Greenwood and Michael Ryder both took wickets to reduce the home team to 100 for 8, aided by a superb catch in the deep by Matthew Ross and another catch for Greenwood. 28 were added sensibly for the last two wickets but a return of 128 all out was well below par. The Park reply stuttered when the in-form Greenwood was held off a good opening spell from Frankie Hazle, who followed up by bowling Liam Neal; 15 for 2. A third wicket fell at 45 but some steady play by Anil Patel and Josh Turner saw off the new ball before the latter was bowled for 7 and Michael Ryder, promoted up the order, fell for 9. Enter Salim Patel who followed a good wicket keeping display and two catches with some sensible batting with his namesake and the score steadily rose. Salim then expanded his range against the change bowlers to finish the match after two balls of the 20 overs, finishing with a fine 47 not out with Anil hitting 33 not out in a controlled display, the pair adding an unbroken 71 for the 5th wicket. All the Upminster bowlers tried hard but the total being defended was insufficient. Another match played in excellent spirit by both teams!
