Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI v SOUTHEND ON SEA & EMT 4TH on Sat 10 Jul 2010 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 4 wickets
Match report
Park were seriously depleted for this match his match but emerged voctors in a game which saw less than 150 runs scored for 16 wickets in two balls shy of 42 overs. No batsman scored 20 and although there was some tidy bowling from both teams, the pitch was the culprit, being well below standard and causing plenty of problems. Fortunately Park won the toss and hving asked th visitors to bat saw the wickets begin to tumble almost immediately with Ahmad Butt and Mueez Qureshi taking 3 wickets inside 10 overs. This included the dangerous Vajinder who attacked the bowling from the start before perishing to a good high catch by ammar Zahid for the day's highest score of 18. Mohammed Jabar's left arm quicks were too good for the visitors' middle order, taking 4 for 11 off 7 overs, and with stand in skipper Ian Greenwood chipping in with 3 for 8 and backed by some good fielding and catching ther innings subsided for 73. with the ball taking pieces out of the pitch Park found batting equally difficult. southend's tall skipper simon wray made the ball seam and bounce irregularly as Ian Greenwood went 3rd ball and ammar Zahis mishit to cover. Debutant colts George Bryant and Liam Neal played some decent shots but also succumbed and Park were 6 down with 20 to win. However the Southend bowlers were tiring in the heat and Michael Ryder kept a cool head for 16 not out and with Aidan Mcdonald finding the boundary in 12 not out the win was sealed after 15.5 overs which seemed like 50! Simon Wray deserved his figures of 5 for 43 off 8 overs for the visitors. In the event a good victory for Park in difficult circumstances. Next week it is local rivals Upminster 6th away.
