HORNCHURCH v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 09 Jul 2005 at 1.30pm
Match was Drawn

Match report Having lost the toss GP&R were asked to bat first at Harrow Lodge. Toogood again opened the batting with Kullar but Park soon found themselves a wicket down as Bal's mistimed pull was well caught at square leg. Churchill joined Toogood and after seeing off some difficult early overs put together a large partnership that was the basis for Park's total. The fast outfield meant any shots beating the infield raced away for four, keeping the scoring rate brisk. Jason produced his best batting display of the season, a mature innings with good shot selection, claiming a well deserved maiden half-century at 2nd XI level. At the other end, Greg was continuing his recent good form as Park began to get on top of the bowling on an easy paced pitch. Jason dragged one on for a fine 59 but will hopefully use this as a springboard to put together more big scores. Greg moved past his half-century soon after and looked set for a big score while James Patient kept the scoring moving with a solid 42 as Park put themselves in position to post a large total. Rudi Filmalter was moved up the order to ensure some quick runs in the final stage of the innings and as usual produced some clean hitting in his 27. With Park needing a big score on this fast scoring ground to ensure as difficult a chase as possible for opposition also at the foot of the table, the innings was declared when 300 was reached in the 51st over, Greg unbeaten for a fine 126.
In reply, Olivier and Filmalter made life difficult for Hornchurch's early batsmen as Barry's extra pace and Rudi's away swing frequently beat the bat. Barry bowled both openers and claimed a third early wicket to give Park some hope but as the ball become older and the pitch flatter, Hornchurch's batsmen began to look comfortable and the runs started to flow. After an hour and a half, with both opening bowlers tiring, Richard Wall and Jason Toogood were brought on but Hornchurch continued to score at a quick rate albeit a long way off from their target. Jason finally claimed a fifth wicket to secure an extra bowling point but with just half a dozen or so overs left and more than 80 needed, Hornchurch played out time for the draw, finishing on 236-5.
GP&R picked up ten points to Hornchurch's five to close the gap on the teams, including Hornchurch, that are immediately above them in the table.
