Match report This friendly between two young sides sprinkled with veterans produced an exciting finish with Park running out winners by six runs with one over of the game left. Asked to bat first Park found the Horndon pitch played very low and with the outfield uncut progress was going to be slow. Ian Greenwood crashed a long hop and was brilliantly caught at square leg and George Seager was stumped before a partnership of 39 (including a liberal number of extras) took the score to 49 where three wickets fell. Awais Masood played very well however and in company with skipper Andy Jenner took the score to 100 before falling LBW for 49 including five 4s and three 6s. Jenner shepherded the tail before falling in the final over for 20 and the score of 132 looked competitive in the conditions. The Park opening attack of Under 14s Kudi Kamudiwariya and Burhan Ahmad were lively. However despite an early wicket for Burhan opener Mason (16)and number four Jones (35)played positively and in partnership kept the scoreboard moving. Under 13 James Brown and veteran Ian Greenwood bowled their spin well in tandem, nice catches were taken by Finlay Goff and Kudi and as the score rose whittled away at the wickets but it was getting tight and all the bowlers were tried before skipper Jenner introduced himself to tighten things up with 28 needed and four wickets and seven overs in hand. The key wicket was Jones, bowled by Greenwood for a very well played 35, and Jenner nipped in with two wickets, one an excellent catch by Kudi. With Horndon needing 7 to win and 7 balls left there was a run out, and Park were home! Greenwood finished with 5 for 24, James Brown 1 for 20, Burhan 1 for 28, Kudi 1 for 16 and Andy Jenner 2 for 9. A well played in good spirit by all the players on a fine afternoon at good lower XI facilities.
