WEST ESSEX 4TH v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI on Sat 01 Aug 2009 at 1pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 4 wickets
Match report
Two in form teams met at The Rolls and the home side West Essex (who racked up a score of 270ish last week) took first innings on a pitch that proved to be quite lively at first before quieting down, with the opener succumbing first ball to a delivery from Ahmed Butt that climbed and took the glove. Thereafter the batsmen played aggressively where they could and hit a few boundaries, but the Park attack found its line and length and a good tussell ensued between bat and ball. With the score 65 the mounting pressure got through and Rajesh Kanojia took the first of his three wickets. Ahmed Butt chipped in as well and batsmen failed to set themselves, played too agreesively too early and got out. All credit to the bowlers as they whittled away in a good, consistent display and a final score of 136 all out off 36 overs was well under par for a small and usually fast scoring ground. Kanojia finsished with 3 wickets, Ahmed Butt 2 wickets, Nelson Lopes removed the lower order with 4 victims, and Andy Jenner nipped in with one.
Park quickly lost the in form Balasobramaniam to a catch and he was swiftly followed by fellow opener Ian Greenwood being run out. The bowling was
testing and colt Ahmed Wain and Ahmed Butt had to defend resolutely at first. However runs did start to come with Butt hitting some good drives and Wain hitting one massive straight six. They took the score to 68 before Wain was out for a well played 30. This only brought Rajesh Kanojia to the crease and he proceeded to hit a six third ball and thereafter blitz the attack, more boundaries following very quickly. Butt was out with 10 needed for an excellent 43 and fittingly Kanojia hit the winning four with the win for Park by 6 wickets coming off only 26 overs. For an improving team this was a very good all round effort indeed.
