UPMINSTER 6TH v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI on Sat 15 May 2010 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Upminster won the toss and elected to bat but were soon under pressure from the Park opening attack of Andy Jenner and Rajesh Kanojia. This pressure told when with the score 23 Ammar Zahid caught a well judged skied catch in the covers off Jenner and this was soon followed by a run out. Will Murphy and Old put on 49 with the former playing some fine shots when allowed to by the bowlers but 74 for 3 became 101 for 6 as Nelson Lopes struck twice, debutant colt Matt Creevy took a catch off his own bowling, and John Roberts took an outstanding catch in the deep off debutant colt Louis Parr. Louis took a further two wickets in a good start to his senior career, and Rajesh Kanojia wrapped up the innings at 140, including the wicket of Murphy, ninth out for 82, a terrific innings in the circumstances. Rajesh took 2 for 38, Nelson 2 for 24 and Louis 3 for 25.
Park's openers Ian Greenwood and Ammar Zahid played confidently to put on 63 for the first icket before Ammar left for a well played 30 (4 fours and one 6), Ian was caught for 32 with the score on 83 and Anil Patel quickly followed. Three more wickets fell as the batsmen tried to finish the inninmgs quickly when a little more patience would have helped, but john Roberts was unlucky to drag one on after 18 in four balls before Rajesh Kanojia brought the scores level and boundary extras brought the win. The game was played in excellent spirit by both teams and it was a pleasure to play in warm weather!
