Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Sunday 2nd X1 v Carlton Sports on Sun 13 Sep 2009 at 1pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 43 runs
Match report
The sunday 2nds finished the season with a win in a well fought match against new opposition from Kent, Carlton Sports. Park took first use of an excellent pitch at Gallows Corner and were quickly into their stride through openers Sam Hewitt and Greg Churchill. This match was notable for some excellent catching however (15 of the 20 wickets to fall were to catches) and both players fell to the first chance offered. 21 for 2 became 42 for 5 as the bowlers kept to thier disciplines and at 62 for 6 things looked ominous. Salim Patel played an assured innings however, and he was joined by skipper Andy Jenner who proceeded to anchor the rest of the innings. Salim departed to another good catch for a well played 30 but Brijesh Patel batted really well at number 10 for 37 and added 52 with Jenner to take the total to a respectable 154 all out off 46 overs. For the visitors O'Shannessey took 4 for 23 and Brown 4 for 27.
The visitors' reply was kept in check by some tight bowling from Andy Jenner but they proceeded to 66 for 1 before the 2nd wicket fell (another catch) and then the catch of the day, a blinder, a full length dive by Mike Hewitt, made it 70 for 3. Spinners Brijesh Patel and Dave Cobill got to work and runs dried up and catches were held as the innings subsided to 111 all out off 41 overs and with three of the last 20 overs left. Patel took 3 for 16 off 9 overs, and Cobill 4 for 24 off 10 overs. A nice match and a nice way to round off the season!
