Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI v WICKFORD 4TH on Sat 25 Jul 2009 at 1pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 7 wickets
Match report
Wickford took first use of a benign Royal Liberty pitch and were on the receiving end of a very accurate opening spell from Waleed Wain, moving the ball with some pace, and Gurjit Jutla. It was difficult to count the number of times batsmen played and missed but there were only two wickets to show for all the pressure coming from all the bolwers used at the half way stage when the score stood at 64 for 2. Runs did start to come partly through the number three who hit 45 and partly from the lower middle order slogging a few at the end but always the Park attack kept to bowling to the field and by the end of the innings at a well below par 175 for 8 declared, Waleed had taken 2 for 24, James Pegram had a 4 fer and Gurjit Jutla and Nelson Lopes one each. the bolwers were backed by some decent fielding, too!
Park quickly lost the in-form Arasu Balasubramaniam in reply but Sam Hewitt and Simon Trowse steadily built the score until both were out with the score 44. That only brought together Nelson Lopes and Waleed Wain however and they increasingly took the game away from wickford by hitting the bad balls for boundaries and defending the others. In the end Park won well with eight oveers to spare by 7 wickets with Nelson hitting the winning four on 79 not out and Waleed on 38 not out. An all round good team performance.
