OLD SOUTHENDIAN & SOUTHCHURCH 3RD v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 16 May 2009 at 1pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 18 pts
Match report
Park fielded possibly one of the youngest 4th XI's in their history on Saturday. Also Cobs and Ian greenwood played!! The pitch had a green look to it with also the hint of stud marks!so having won the toss it was time to bowl. 26 overs later without a wicket and your thinking did I get this right?
Then Aaron popped up to remove both openers, and OSSC reached 229. This was aided by some relaxed fielding. The Park boys will need to look at this aspect of the game because eventually it'll be in a game that matters and the extra runs won't be reached.
Aaron bowled well again. Chris Mckie was unlucky not get reward. Cob's last over didn't go for 28, Harvir picked up two wickets in his fifteen overs. Catches were held, even by the skipper who shelled three last week.
Tea cost £45. There weren't any seats. The dust in the changing rooms irrated my skin and turned Cob's hair white (whiter).
In reply Ian Greenwood went first ball, bowled by a rare straight one, then Pete Collier flicked one to square leg and was caught, Matt Brett was bowled by a full toss and Harvir was caught and bowled for 16. This left Park at 34 -4 and OSSC looking at a twenty point victory.
I've had a bad week, Ofsted inspection, lost my phone and had to sit through a course on egg sucking at Chelmsford. So I wasn't in a good mood. At 34 -4 this was worse. So new bat in hand stagger to the crease and have a chat with Mr Pegram (Michael i believe) couple of over later Michael was back in the hutch, the six around the bat tatic employed to him wasn't to me. Shame because i chipped one back to the bowler on zero, no one was there. Chris Mckie came in and the score was 197 when I fell for 85 stumped, shattered but content, having exorcised some frustration. Highlight the six into the flats over the 25 foot fence.
Also highlights were Chris Mckie and Aaron Hughes who again took the side home, this time for a 18 point victory.
MOM : Dave Pasola (85). I got five votes!!
Captains Award: Chris Mckie 74 not out and good bowling.
Champagne moment: Matthew Brett and his one man lbw appeals!!! the one the guy hit was very optimistic!!!
