CHELMSFORD v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 09 May 2009 at 1pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won by 3 runs
Match report
The first league game of the season produced an interesting game which was played in marvellous spirit and sportsmanship at Chelmer park. In all honesty the game should've been won by Chelmsford. A great result for Park.
Park had a great start thanks to Ashley Capp & Ron Montgomery, after being put into bat. A slowing of the scoring thanks to Paul Lay & veteran Keith Goodman meant that Park had to settle with 205 from 52 overs, when 220 to 230 should've been scored. The fact that 205 was reached was thanks mainly to Tony Millar's efforts towards the end of the Park innings.
Park started off well in the field Jakk Carver & Paul Winmill bowled well at the start of the innings. Reducing Chelmsford to 20 for 3 at one stage. They rallied well thanks to Cranmer, Turner, Witham & Bond. At the beginning of the final 20 overs Chelmsford looked favorites to win. But Park did not stop trying in the field. More wickets from Carver & Winmill & an important catch from Suki Jutla meant that Chelmsford required 4 from the last over with 1 wicket in hand.
After refusing a run off the first ball of the final over, Ken Jones the Chelmsford number 10 was bowled by Paul Winmill to complete a remarkable win for Park. Winmill finishing with 3 for 38 while young Jakk Carver finished with 5 for 71.
Thanks must go to Mike Van Dome from Chelmsford who umpired both ends for the whole game.
