Park won the toss and batted. The innings was built around an excellent 3rd wicket stand of 216 between the prolific Ron montgomery (108) and the ever improving Peter Collier(87).

Park had trouble getting rid of the Horchurch opener Crane who was eventually dismissed for 91 by an excellent catch by Billy payne off the bowling of Gary Coombe who looked to be our best chance of getting wickets and finished with 3-43 which could easily have been 5 or 6. Ed Gavigan returned to the attack to take 4 wickets in two overs! But it was two late with Athletic crossing the line with the loss of 7 wickets.
