BILLERICAY v Gidea Park & Romford CC U16 on Sun 29 Jun 2008 at 1pm
Gidea Park & Romford CC Won by 32 runs
How nice it is to report on a win for the U16's and a quality win at that. A lovely ground at Billericay, pleasant surroundings, pleasant opposition and fair impartial umpiring. Back to the nice world. GPR were put into bat on what looked like a belter of a wicket, but the Billericay bowling was sharp and incisive, and despite David Brett, promoted to open, hitting a steady 13 runs, we soon found ourselves at a very dodgy 39 for 5 after just 12 overs. Elliott Skinner, having crafted 124 the day before had gone for a duck, and Andy Jones Lloyd Renvoize and Chris McKie also fell quickly. Whilst this was going on, Captian Adam McKie stood and watched almost 'Clint Eastwoodlike' before launching himself into a fine innings rescuing 81 - falling on the last ball of the allotment of 40 overs. It was a fantastic captains knock. He was ably aupported by the tail, with Chris Lamb hitting a great 17, Tom Glanville a fine 21 and Jakk Carver, continued the tail wag with a good 13 of his own. GPR found themselves with a good target of 192 to defend. Billericay started steadily against David and Lloyd with just one wicket falling for 50 in the first 14 overs, indeed by the halfway stage Billericay were pretty much on par for the loss of just three, it had the look of a tight game. But after some tight bowling from Jakk Carver and Aron Hughes, Chris McKie and Anuarag put the screws on, and when Anu got the wicket of Smith who made 51, things looked up for GPR, Some spirited resistance from the middle order but Jakk Carver bowled a fine return spell to finish with 4-24. The boys fielded great too, chasin down everything and as always encouraging each other all the time. Special mention to Adam and Jakk who starred this week. But once again the team really dug deep after a mini batting crisis and they bowled and all fielded, with those who missed out with the bat, like Elliot and Andy, still working hard to save runs admirably as well as I've seen.
