Park lost the toss & were put in by Chelmsford, Phil Ayres & Greg Churchill put on a fine opening stand of 113 for the first wicket. After the fall of Ayres for 54 skipper Derek Allen came to the crease, he & Greg put on a hundred befroe Greg's dismissal. Park scored only 4 more runs before the fall of the next wicket & Allen declared.
Park took to the field using the old ball, opening with young off spinner Alan Croft who toiled away from one end for the whole of the Chelmsford innings. He turned in useful figures of 3-57 from 24 overs. At the other end former Denmark under 19 player Baljit Singh bowled his seamers to good effect taking 3-27 from 11 overs.
Park took 7 wickets quite quickly, but a stubborn 8th wicket stand hindered there progress and by the time skipper Allen bought himself into the attack a draw was the most likely result. He took one wicket but Park were unable to force a result
