Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won by 23 runs

Match report God David can talk!

The dark clouds filled the sky, bringing with them threats of Thor's thunder instead of of the crack of willow and leather. The Gladiators of Gidea Park took on the Bulls of Hornchurch and promptly lost the first battle on the spin of the coin. Inserted the Gidea Park openers of Professor Greenwood, and Gurjit Jutla conspired Matadorially to thwart the pace of "Banger" and his bullish fiery friends. removing Gurjit with a ball that raised the odd Gladiator eyebrow, moving in and staying low. Thus enter Daniel Kevin Rees. Batting for the first time since breaking an ankle, truly a welcome sight. A shaky start saw him stood like a flamingo, one legged and waving at the ball. However with one swing of his mighty sword and the ball sailed high and out of the coliseum towards the Home of the resting constabulary. Several sixes later and with the support of the Professors 39, Gidea looked good but then the the chariots wheels came off. Professor Greenwood departed, Sam Hewitt fell victim to the pitch. Captain Pasola failed. Rees fell, swiping a full toss to long off. But ever increasingly the pitch turned. The Bulls of Hornchurch eventually took the 10th wicket, the experienced Les Hall trying to move Park towards an illusive second batting point. 145 all out, Rees 71. Hard to get? I should coco!!!

Then at tea. Thor and the rest of the cricket gods spoke. A downpour reminiscent of standing under a waterfall, dampened the dusty wicket on which the dual was to be decided. Sam Hewitt and Andrew Jones opened the attack and for a while Hornchurch looked in total control. Then with the sixth ball of his second over Jones found the spit and bounce that had confused Parks batsman so much, a good catch taken by Rees the one legged at first slip. Hewitt bowled a good line and length but the pitch seemed placid and slow.

Then from over the hill at point came the saviour, short, aggressive and with a bundle of unkept hair Chris Mckie was thrust the ball, earlier than the leg spinner expected. What followed was a joy the behold. leg spin, leg spin, leg spin, the other one occasionally and often wickets. Confusing batsman, keeper and spectator alike. Ably supported by Professor Greenwood's 3 wickets, the Bulls were led one by one the Mckie's Slaughter house. Finishing with 6-44 of fifteen of the best overs to grace the Gladiators season. The last bull holed out at long on the a stepling catch by Mike Hewitt. 122 all out.

Gladiators 20pts Bulls 4pts.
