CHELMSFORD v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 12 Jul 2008 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Lost 5 wickets

Match report Park entered this match with the unbeaten league leaders after two wins on the bounce themselves, but yet again lost the toss and found themselves batting on a chilly afternoon at Chelmer Park. Ashu Dahbi and Baljit Jutla were in little trouble against the home side's seam attack however and put on 54 in 14 overs before Ashu was caught for 18. It was a surprise when Baljit was LBW for 43 (containing 6 fours) with the score on 71 so confidently was he playing but although the home side tightened up their bowling it was only after a break for rain that things started to happen. The introduction of leg spinner Tim Halsey gained an immediate wicket and thereafter no-one played him with any confidence as he obtained considerable turn and bowled accurately. From 96 for 3 the score subsided to 127 all out with Halsey taking 6 for 15 off 8 overs, the only double figures coming from Ammar Zahid with 18 and Hafiz Ali with 12. Fellow leg spinner Bolton nipped in with 2 for 14. In the conditions and after the good start the final total was well short of par and another 30 runs at least would have made a more competitive score for the conditions.
Jakk Carver mad a quick breakthrough for Park in the 4th over to make it 8 for 1 and continued with a spell of 5 overs for 15 runs and one wicket, but thereafter, despite a good hostile spell from Hafiz Ali, the batsmen progressed to 75 before Sterland was well held by junior Gurjit Jutla for 25. Guy Balmford was stroking the ball around and had his share of good fortune but when he left run out for 43 to make it 91 for 3, a further wicket fell at 100 and then another wicket at 119 after another good catch by Gurjit. However, despite the efforts of the bowlers, who all put in good spells, the final margin of Chelmsford's win by 5 wickets was about right given the cricket they had played and the key part played by their spin attack. Park can take some comfort that they are unlikely to play as good a side all season and with all the teams in the mix for the spots behind the runaway leaders there is plenty to play for.
Next week we are away at Southend on Sea 3rd XI.
