Gidea Park & Romford CC Saturday 4th X1 v EPPING on Sat 05 Jul 2008 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford CC Won 6 wickets

A fine day, a good pitch and a fast outfiled made for an entertaining match as Epping 3rds were hosted for the first time. The visitors won the toss and batted and were off to a real flyer as opener Danny Taylor hit 25 off the second over and then plundered all the ensuing bowling by hitting 13 fours and two sixes in an innings of 91 off 26 overs with primarily clean straight hitting. It was an impressive knock, the more so as the run rate at the other end was pedestrian by comparison. The Park attack was shuffled around to try and keep a semblance of order, and this was achieved through initially the efforts of Jakk Carver and Harvir Jutla, but it took veteran Dave Cobill's spin to take the first wicket to end a stand of 94. A second wicket fell soon after when Ammar Zahid was introduced and then after 24 overs two wickets fell with the score 140, both to Ammar and one of them the important victim of Taylor who miscued to cover. The 5th wicket pair of Cottman 24 and Simmons 21 added 47 but again three wickets fell close together to make it 202 for 7 with this time Ravi Rajani involved in his first outing on return from university. He went on to claim a third victim and despite a brief flurry from number 10 Barton (27)the final score of 238 all out represented a real recovery by Park given the avalanche of runs early on. Ammar ended with 3 for 45 off 8 overs, and Ravi 3 for 42 off 4.1 overs.
Park's openers Ashu Dhabi and Baljit Jutla made sure the reply was quickly underway by plundering some erratic early bowling from Epping. 10 came off the third over and 14 off the fourth over and although this pace fell away there was never a moment when either batsman was pinned down. Their running was good, too, and they put ofn 67 in 11 overs before it was a surprise when Baljit pushed a catch back to the bowler. Ashu continued in great touch with some lovely drives and with Ammar Zahid keeping the other end going the pair added 105 for the second wicket in 16 overs, when Ashu hit one to mid-wicket after striking 8 fours and 1 six. Ammar and Dave Pasola continued to push hard for the win until Ammar was out to an absolutely astonishing one handed running catch on the long on boundary off a drive that looked four all the way! He made an excellent 55 and although another wicket fell with four needed to win the victory was achieved with 10 overs to spare, Dave Pasola ending on a well played 29 not out.
This was a second consecutive win for a Park side that now is really finding its feet in the new division and 3rd XI level, and pushes them up to 3rd in the table in what is a close fought league. Next week the side travels to old rivals Chelmsford 4ths.
