COLCHESTER & EAST ESSEX v Gidea Park & Romford CC Saturday 1st X1 on Sat 03 May 2008 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford CC Lost by 48 runs
Disappointingly park lost their second round cup match against Colchester at Castle Park by 48 runs.
Asked to bat first Colchester could hardly brake away away from some tight bowling but a disciplined and patient opening stand reaped 47 runs saw them gain a steady start. Park looked in complete control as all bowlers bowled tightly on a very slow and damp wicket. Ejaz Khan the pick of the bowlers with 3-34 from his 9 overs. Afrid , Asalm, and Mohsin all claimed a wicket a piece. With a late blast of 50 runs in the last 5 overs a total of 190 looked a tall order. Ponting 58, Julian Russell 30 were the main contributors in this total.
Park had an awful start losing both openers on 8. Colchester produced a commanding bowling performance helped by enthusiastic fielding and catching. Runs were hard to come by. Afridi went for 15, Collard for 15, Alex Roberts the pick of the batting with a well structured 33, but the rate had moved above a comfortable target on a slow wicket. Kish Shallow 24 and Liam Ferns 14 offered a late charge but it was all too much and Parks chase faded away and as did this years cup challenge
