Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Under 16's v Woodford Green on Sun 15 Jul 2007 at 2pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report A low scoring match but at last a win for GP&R. Despite a depleted team, with Tom, Connor, and Jack being lost to the wretched game of football, Andy being on a school trip, and Waleed not turning up, the side still put on a great show, with stand ins from the lower teams, Chris McKie, Jack Carver, and Harry Gray all performing brilliantly. Thanks too to Joe Thompson for doing a stint behind the stumps and performing well. Woodford batted first and were soon shell shocked by some fine bowling from Lloyd and Jamie, reducing them to 16-3 in just 5 overs. But Lloyd was soon too tire, another late night in front of the Nintendo Wie and Woodford consolidated to add 50 runs for the next wicket. The other bowlers picked away at them and runs were hard to come by. Simon Trowse bowled a good line, Adam Mckie grabbed 2 wickets, and Jack Carver coming in from the U15's bowled superbly in what must have been a nervous first outing in the U16's. Woodford wickets fell regularly after their mid innings recovery and Chris McKie bamboozled his elders with some well deleivered leg spin near the close. The boys fielded well with great enthusiasm too and set themselves a very gettable target despite the absence of the regulars. Simon and Adam opened and set off slowly knowing they had time to get the score. By halfway we had amassed half the runs needed for the loss of only one wicket and Simon was doing his 'Tavare' bit (ask your fathers they'll explain) at the top of the order. Jamie hung around and Lloyd did his usual entertaining blitz of fours, only to hole out to mid on just as he'd got going, allowing the crowd to return to the bar whilst there drinks were still cold (if only the bar had been open!). For a moment it looked like we may not get there but Joe Thompson and Nathan Bowen steadied the ship before Chris Mckie and Colin Campbell saw the team home with 3 wickets and 3 overs to spare. A fine win for the lads, but its clear that they are bowling far better than they bat at the moment. I think Teenagehood works for bowling, to bowl you need some technique, energy, enthusiasm, fitness and you can get away with the odd mistake, all things available to the teenager, to bat you need a lot of technique, patience, application, commom sense. But the boys are coming on a bundle and this was a solid performance. Thanks again to the lads from the lower elevens and especially to Gordon McKie and John Renvoize for there great help today.
