Basildon & Pitsea v Gidea Park & Romford CC U16 on Mon 07 May 2007 at 4pm
Gidea Park & Romford CC Lost 10 wickets
Rain curtailed this 40 over match and eventually it was agreed to half the length of the game to 20 overs as the grey clouds cleared. GPR's U16 side will face an uphill struggle this year as most of the opposition teams will have the luxury of fielding 16 year olds, where we have none. This match certainly illustrated this. Batting first GPR lost Tom Stephen to an unfortunate run out and when it looked as though Adam McKie was beginning to score freely with Connor Halsey, the latter was out caught for 9 having hit two nice boundaries. Lloyd swished across a straight one and was out quickly, and it was really only the McKie brothers who kept things moving, the only batsmen to reach double figures. David Brett stuck around with Chris Mckie but after they were out the innings quickly folded with a poor total of just 68. The Basildon & Pitsea batsmen were able to pace their response easily and saw off the excellent bowling of Lloyd Renvoize. Adam McKie bowled a tight spell but David Brett was uncharacteristically punished as he strayed off a length, and with just 12 overs bowled the home side cruised to the target without losing a wicket. A sorry start to the season but their were some promising performances, Lloyd with the ball, and the McKie's with the bat. Hopefully the return of Andrew Jones, missing today with a badly bruised finger, will help lift the scoring in the next game, that aside, the team will all need to perform if we are to avoid further defeats like this as the season progresses.
