Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI v WALTHAMSTOW on Sat 07 Jul 2007 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won won by 158 runs
Match report
At last a fine day and a pitch in remarkably good condition after all the rain in the last couple of weeks, albeit a slow outfield. Walthamstow won the toss and elected to field and Jas Chaggar and Craig Bray made steady progress against the new ball and rarely looked in trouble. Both played some good shots as the partnership built and the visitors' fielding became increasingly disjointed. The 1st wicket put on 163 before Bray was out for an excellent 79 (six fours) and the in form Jerry Trayler soon followed to a boundary catch that he had hit like a shell, but Chaggar kept the pace going eventually finishing on 92 not out (one six, 12 fours) coupled with a flourish from Tom Montgomery (four fours in a quick fire 22 not out) prefaced an early declaration at 221 for 2. The over rate throughout was apallingly slow only 42 overs being bowled in 2 hours 40 minutes play!
The Walthamstow reply was a succession of batsmen starting in the first over when Jerry Trayler held a slip catch off Andy Jenner. Some brief resistance came from 2nd wicket pair Trainer and Shah but this was ended by a fine diving catch by Trayler, the former top scoring with 17, but the bowlers were always at the batsmen and the combination of Jenner's seam and Dave Cobill's spin, plus a sharp run out, saw the total dip to 35 for 7. John Roberts chipped in with a wicket in a good spell, but with the pitch getting slower and the visitors 9 down numbers 10 and 11 Hannon and Mccullum played for their lives and blocked away for nine overs before the returning Jenner claimed the final wicket for a comprehensive win for Park by 158 runs. Cobill had excellent figures of 10 overs 6 maidens 8 runs 3 wickets, and Jenner 13 overs 7 maidens 16 runs 5 wickets.
