Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI v SOUTH WOODFORD on Sat 16 Jun 2007 at 1PM
Match was Drawn

Match report On an overcast day with showers predicted Park lost the toss and were asked to bat. The pitch was conducive to seam bowling and the South Woodford attack kept the ball in the right areas. It was great credit to Park openers Craig Bray and Jerry Trayler that they weathered the situation and kept the scoreboard moving adding 54 in 20 overs before Craig was out for a well played 29. Suki Julta joined Jerry and both played their shots to take the score to 124 after 34 overs when there was a 15 minute rain break. From the time of the restart they both went for their shots and rapidly increased the score the partnership being worth 113 when Suki was caught for an excellent aggressive 60 containing 8 fours and 2 sixes. The tempo increased further as Park sought a declaration with Matt Sutton playing some culteured strokes and shorly before the declaration after 47 overs Jerry was caught for an excellent 79 containing 13 fours. South Woodford tried seven bowlers in bowler friendly conditions but the batting proved the worth of patience and application.
There was still some movement in the pitch for the second innings and Andy Jenner and Hafiz Ali struck a good line straight away. Jenner removed the openers courtesy of two catches by Craig Bray as the players tried to attack but a third chance went begging when Khaled was put down and although at the time this did not seem to be crucial with the bolwers on top, importnatly he proceeded to hold the innings together with a cultured 52 before he was 7th out. Jenner claimed a third victim before Park switched the bowling and Mattt Sutton struck almost immediately to reduce the visitors to 80 for 4 but for a spell of 20 minutes the bolwing became erratic allowing the visitors off the hook. Woodford skipper Dave Walcott played aggressively for 30 before perishing to the returning Jenner, cue enter Dave Cobill and with the aid of three good catches, two by Adam Locke and one by Suki Jutla the match swung clearly towards Park. At this point two basic fielding errors allowed the eigth wicket pair chances as they played their shots (no thoughts of defence here!) but a 5th wicket for Jungle meant two overs at the last pair but they played out time. Park bolwed 50 overs in two hours forty minutes including the last hour, a great effort. Jenner finished with the commendable figures of 24 overs 5 maidens 60 runs 5 wickets. Yet again the match was played in good spirit by both teams.
This is the fifth time in six matches this year (the other was rained off)that Park have had the opposition 8 or 9 down but been unable to take the last wicket. The side has played some positive cricket and the first win is not far away.
