Hockley won the toss & decided to bat. Tim Maynard, playing his 1st game of the season, opened the bowling for Park. His very erratic opening over bought the wicket of one the Hockley openers 1st ball, a smart catch by Tom Montgomery at 2nd slip. Park's opening overs in the field were marked by some wayward bowling & poor fielding. This changed after the fall of the 2nd wicket, another good catch this time by Maynard off the bowling of Danny Bond.
The introduction of wily old spinner & sometime darts player Dave Cobill(spinner in the loosest sense of the term) led to mass suicide by 4 of the Hockley batsman. Cobblers finding himself on a hat-trick after one of the most unpleasant cricket strokes I've ever seen led to a second Hockley batsman to get out 1st ball. Cobblers ending up with figures of 4 for 11. At the other end Punit Satsangi bowled a very good line & length for very little reward.
Hale the Hockley skipper played some fine shots to help his team reach as many as they did. But Aussie teacher Adam Bruckshaw chipped in with 2 wickets to help finish the Hocklet innings off.
Park started off brightly thanks to the Hockley bowlers wides a plenty coming from one end. Chris Webber then got into his stride & played a good innings, Chris Goldsmith happy just to occupy the crease after his poor start to the year. Although the Hockley wicketkeeper must be thanked for dropping the ball when Goldsmith should have been run out by at least 5 yards. Webber also having serveral reprieves in the outfield. Park strollled to a comfortable victory.
