Gidea Park & Romford CC Sunday 3rd X1 v Raphael on Sun 25 May 2003 at 2pm
Match was Drawn
A weakened GPR won the toss and elected to field. The young lads stuck to the task well on a hot afternoon. First wicket down was the opener Coxen bowled D'cruz jnr stumped D'cruz snr. The other Rapheal opener Astles looked to be up for a ton before young Jack Kliber had him caught behind for 93. Ron Montgomery came on at the end to claim 3 wickets including that of Paul Surrey who was well caught on the cow corner boundary by Andy D'cruz. Ron Montogomery is now officially classified as an all-rounder!!!
228 to win was always going to be tough but young openers Bray and Locke concentrated hard and although they fell behind the run rate looked in little trouble. Adam Locke struck some fine blows in his 35. Tom Kershaw also batted well before succumbing to the slow leggies of the Rapheals skipper Roberts who finnished with 4 wickets. A middle order collapse saw GPR hold out for a draw thanks to veterans D'cruz and Osbourne (combined age of 99!!!)
