Gidea Park and Romford played the Club Cricket Conference to celebrate David Goldsmiths honor of Presidency for 2003 at Gallows Corner Sunday.
The CCC fielding internationals and Minor counties and recreational cricketers opted to field first and Park were soon in trouble at 30-4 with West Indian Wendall Roberst and Jamie Sparrow using a damp pitch to the great advantage. Richard Whatling scoring a fine 52 and Russ Collard added 67 for the fifth wicket before ex Berkshire and CCC captain Mark Stear removed his leg stump, Whatling followed shortly after for a fine 52 , being stumped off the bowling of Dave Osborne who produced a fine spell of bowling .Ossie also claimed the wicket of Andy Churchill. Chris Collier played a great defiant innings of patience scoring a 29 to give Park a chance of a total to bowl at.
Park finished on 157-9.
THe CCC found the going hard, Davey removed Ahmed fantastically caught by the ever athletic Bruce Adams running away to his right . Collard removed Al Daraji caught by Ian Adams on the long off boundary leaving the CCC on 49-2.Ryan Sparrow played some fine shots to score 48 before he fell to Phil Goldstone caught by CRoft.Wendall Roberts was caught agin by Croft this time off Richard Whatling for 7. Tight bowling and agile fielding especailly in the deep from Adams made scoring difficult. Croft removed Chris Goldsmith for 5 caught by Collier. With the run rate increasing and the fielding good Park struck again to remove Australian Foulsham run out by Davey for 15. Mark Stear and Gary Black formerly of Bucks CCC steadied the ship and needing 2 to win from the last ball could only muster a single and seeing as no rules were made for this game about tied situations the game was claimed by Gidea Park as draw.
