Hadleigh & Thundersley v Gidea Park & Romford CC Saturday 2nd X1 on Sat 28 Jun 2003 at 1.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford CC Won 44 Runs
D.A. lost the toss & Park were asked to bat on a track which kept low at 1 end & took off a bit at the other. Ian Adams continued his poor run of form edgeing behind. Collier went LBW 4 runs later. Both D.A. & James Patient got themselves out after getting themselves in. Monty stuck around with Zorro(Matt Burch) before he was given the finger by the finger by the oppo umpire.
Zorro batted very well, while Basil Faulty(James Evans) scratched around alittle to start. They both started to hit the ball cleanly putting on 53 before Zorro was caught. This bought Lleyton Hewitt(Phil Goldstone) to the crease. Although the running between the wickets was interesting to say the least, these 2 really cut loose with 96 coming off the last 10 overs. Park for once had a total that looked reasonable.
The Hadleigh innings started the way the Park innings finished, 83 coming from the first 10 overs. Phil Goldstone & Jason Toogood looked a little shell shocked as their figures took a hammering. Goldstone made the initial break through. It then became the Mark WIndebank show as the end he bowled at the bounce got lower & lower. A Jungle- esk spell of bowling saw him take 6 -52, his first league wickets of the year....
Goldstone eventually returned to take the final wicket caught outrageously by Zorro at cow corner as Park completed a much needed victory.
