Gidea Park & Romford CC Won 2 wickets
Gidea Park and Romford beat top of the table Ilford in an exciting game by scoring the winning 2 runs of the last ball of the match. On a really hot day at Valentines Park Ilford won the toss and batted first scoring 239 for 5. Park bowled reasonably well but lost it a little in the last 20 overs and Ilford probably made 20 or 30 more than they should have. Although wicketless mark Windebank was probably the pick of the bowlers with 26 for 0 of 13 overs.
In reply Park got of to a good start from Ayres and Redwood who put on over 50 for the first wicket. Captain Derek Allen then came in at three and batted all the way through for a fine 114 not out. Although wickets fell a regular intervals Allen had good partnerships with Jimmy Patient and Jeff Thomas. When the last over arrived Allen had already reached his 100 but still needed 7 to win. With the help og young Phil Goldstone they managed to scamper 2 of the last ball to beat top of the table Ilford.
