Scorecard

Hainault & Clayhall v Gidea Park & Romford CC Saturday 4th X1 on Sat 06 Jul 2002 at 1.30
Match was Drawn

Park were asked to bat first on what proved to be a very slow difficult batting wicket. Park struggled to score at two an over at at 35 overs had only scired 70 runs. The innings was held together by a brilliant knock by veteran Alan Young whose 53 was worth a lot more given the wicket. He still hoxever failed to score his age(62!!!). Alan Young got excellent support from Chris Swainland who scored a very mature 42 and gave the innings a bit of acceleration at the end. 144 didn't seem to be enough.

Hainault started well and got to 48 off 13 overs before Kier Smith made the first breakthrough. Roger Boothby bowled tidily and also got a well deserved wicket. It was great to then see legspiiners Gary Coombe(15) and Andrew D'cruz(14) bowling in tandem and how well they bowled... Gary bowling 14 overs for just 35 runs and two wickets and Andy bowling 11 overs 3 for 20. Great effort boys and long may it continue!!

In the finish Hainault just about held out for a draw in what turned out to be quite an exciting game of cricket
