Gidea Park and Romford completed a comfortable win against Colchester. GP&R won the toss and elected to field. Using only three bowlers Colchester were bowled out in the 52nd overfor a modest total of 153 on a good batting wicket. Paul WINMILL bowled non stop at one end getting 4 for 26. Although backed up well in the beginging by Baljit SINGH young spinner Phil GOLDSTONE came on and bowled 15.2 overs and ended with 6 for 51. In return GP&R were never in any trouble with opener Jeff THOMAS batting through for 46 not out. At 3 Baljit SINGH played some great shots before holing out on 31. Captain Derek ALLEN then joined THOMAS and with 52 not out saw his side home with about an hour and half left to play.This game also saw thw continued improvement in our fielding performance. There was some excellent ground fielding and good catches especially by veteran Ron MONTGOMERY deputising as wicket keeping following Jimmy PATIENT's promotion to the 1st team.
