Baslow v Gidea Park & Romford CC GPRCC U18 Tour to Derbyshire 2006 on Wed 09 Aug 2006 at 2.30pm 40 Overs
Gidea Park & Romford CC Won 5 wickets
After a much smoother journey than the day before we found ourselves at another beautiful cricket ground early enough to have a reasonable warm-up before the game. Subsequently we were to have what many regarded as the highlight of the tour. As the boys were practicing high catches one spiraled in my direction and not wishing to “bottle it” in front of the lads I furiously back peddled to get under a catch not taking my eye off the ball for a moment just as I always taught the boys to do. As I was getting under the ball my feet got tangled in the boundary rope and rather like Inzaman the previous week I realized that momentum was not on my side and I was going to end up in a heap. Well I did end up flat on my back with a lovely little audience laughing hysterically. Needless to say I spilled the catch!!
Anyway Baslow won the toss and decided to Bat. Eddie Gavigan was his usual hostile self and was unlucky not to take a wicket. He did however complete a very special one-handed pick up and throw which was an outstanding peice of fielding late on in the Baslow innings. The Shenfield boys of Lugg and Salisbury took a wicket each but some fine batting from Jones and Buckingham saw Baslow make good progess to 116- 2. Both were removed by Peter Collier (probably the player of the tour) which helped Park to gain some ground but some fine hitting from Skipper Ryills saw Baslow post a challenging total of 186.
Matt Tarr and James Kliber got Park off to a great start by adding 94 runs for the first wicket in 17overs. The first change bowlers were to make things a bit more difficult. The Skipper Ryills took the wicket of Kliber and proceeded to make the lads hop around for the rest of an excellent spell. Baslow also had an excellent U13, Zar Park, who bowled great line and length and got the occasional ball to pop. Zar got rid of Matt tarr after he reached a well deserved 50 and also got rid of Ryan Lugg but only after he had bludgeoned 45 runs in no time. A quickfire 18 from Jack meant that the brothers D’cruz could bring Park home rather comfortably with 4 overs to spare.
The Baslow skipper gave the MOM award to Matt Tarr for his fine 50.
