Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club U13 v Rainham on Sun 19 Jun 2011 at 09:30
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won by 10 wickets
Match report
Havering League
Rainham CC 35 - all out
GP&RCC 37 - 0
A convincing win against a young and inexperienced Raimham side.....
On a cold and damp Sunday morning Park welcomed Rainham CC to Gallows Corner. Rainham were first to bat and were soon in trouble with wickets falling with the score on 0, 1, 9 and then 2 wickets with the score on 17, leaving Rainham wobbling on 17-5. At this point the age and experience of the Rainham batsmen fell away so, in keeping with the spirit of the game, the Park bowlers eased off and bowled some gentle 'stuff' allowing the visitors to move on to 35 all out.
Parks openers David Goff and George Earle were under orders to bat aggressively, as if they were chashing a bigger score, and duly knocked off the runs in just under 7 overs, with George's new bat going sweetly (22 not out).
With lots of time left in the morning it was agreed to play a 10 over thrash. This time Park were first up and after some big shots, particularly from Aniket, closed on 54-2.
Rainham put up a spirited chase with opener Herbert batting well to retire on 30 not out but with no other batsman getting set Rainham's chase fell away to the extent that they needed 15 to win off of the last over with 3 wickets in hand. Elliot then produced a great last over conceeding just 3 runs while taking the final 3 wickets, allowing Park to run out winners by 11 runs.
Next up are Hornchurch in a Peter Coe cup game followed by Upminster 'A' and Woodford Wells, so safe to say that the standard of the oposition will be cranked up over the next few weeks and that the team will have to be at it's best to cope. Selection will take place at training on Friday evening and we shall be looking to pick the strongest available side on the night.
