Match report

A bad day at the office for the U13s.....
After signs of improvement in recent weeks it was disappointing to put in such a poor performance at Springfield. They weren’t a great side, relying on one player to open the batting, open the bowling and captain the side but that one player’s bowling was enough to blow away our top order batsmen, well that and some crazy running between the wickets (3 run outs)!
Things had begun reasonably well after Springfield had won the toss and batted with Joe, Harry and Kudiwa all bowling well and taking wickets, helped by some solid catching, having Springfield deep in trouble at 86 for 8. At this point the manager made the mistake of telling the team not to let up and to be ruthless in killing off the innings, only for the whole team to lose concentration badly allowing Springfield to recover to 155 – 9 from their 30 overs.
The Park innings then got off to the worst possible start with Joel bowled from his first ball and the rest of the top order struggling with the pace (though he wasn’t half a quick as our batsmen made him look!) and accuracy of the home skipper’s bowling. With Charlie then managing to run himself out without having faced a ball from his own call things were gong from bad to worse and it was only some solid rear-guard batting from Lauren, Kudiwa and Joe (showing the kind of application that was sorely missing from the top order) that stopped us from being completely embarrassed. However, 63 all out was well below par and highlighted how frail our batting can be against anything slightly quick.
It’s going to be a case of all change this week for the visit of Rainham as some stalwarts (David, Joel, Elliot, Harry and Joe) are going to be rested while some others in poor form are being left out to give some new faces a chance.
One thing’s for sure, we can’t be as bad this week as we were last….. or can we….. let’s see!
