Scorecard

WANSTEAD v Gidea Park & Romford CC Saturday 4th X1 on Sat 05 Aug 2006 at 1.30pm
Match was Drawn

This was an excellent result for a depleted Park side against a very good young Wanstead team, and so nearly could have been a terrific win in a matcxh which see-sawed around until the last ball. all this was against a backdrop of a terrible pitch at Snarebrook which played all sorts of tricks and favoured neither bowler or batsman, the short boundaries and fast outfield in some part making up for the problems posed by the pitch.
Wanstead won the toss and chose to bat but their prolific openers Velani and singh were both out by the time the score was 31, well held in both cases. Suki Jutla posed a number of problems by bowling a good line and three more wickets fell to make it 71 for 5 but a stand between Joe Palmer (58) in an assured knock, and Ramdial took the score on to 125 , when two wickets fell in qui k succession. At this point Park scented knocking over the tail, but both Chris Burgess and Alex Tosh played very well and took all chances that presented themselves to score, and they added an important 75 for the 8th wicket. Once the partnership was broken the final tweo wickets fell straight away for an all out score of 207. Durham Bhogal kept up his good form with the ball taking 4 for 30 off 12 overs, and Suki Jutla equally impressed with 4 for 34 off 11 overs, and all catches were taken. Extras were inevitable on this pitch, a wicket keeper's nightmare, including good length slow balls that bounced over the batsman's head and that of the wicketkeeper as well, with the next going straight along the ground!
Park would have settled for this score before the innings started, and the Chaggar brothers set off by taking thier toll of anything loose to post 53 for the first wicket. Jas Chaggar and Suki Jutla then took the score to 89 before the former was well held off a good strike for 37, but then 3 wickets fell for 15 runs as the lack of depth in the batting surfaced, tony Burgeess claiming 5 for 40. However, skipper Andy Jenner joined Jutla and they added 46 in good time before Jenner was out to a flier. The tail dug in and with Jutla in fine form (9 fours and 1 six in 66 not out) a win was possible for both sides. 18 were needed off two overs with two wickets left but the equation became 15 off the fianl over with one wicket left. A bit of an anticlimax as the fianl over was a bit erratic, not helping the home side get the one wicket they needed or Park get the runs, but a final score of 194 for 9 and an honours even draw was a fair result in an excellent fourth eleven match.
