Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI v WALTHAMSTOW on Sat 17 Jun 2006 at 1.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 2 wickets
Match report
After last week's poor availability this week the team was much more representative against Walthamstow, and duly won a closely fought match. Park won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first. Andy Jenner and Nick Ford regularly beat the bat in their opening spells and the run rate was stifled. Nick took a fantastic diving caught and bowled to break the opening stand and two close decisions were turned down on Burton (who went on to make 52) and Alexander (who went on to kake 67) before both were established. The former found some hearty drives in his locker and the latter played and missed interspersed with powerful hits through the offside taking the score to 97, Mark Lloyd coming in for unexpected punishment. Durham Bhogal and Anil Patel were bowling in tandem by this point and they proceeded to keep things under control assisted by some attentive fielding with good catches from Dave Pasola and Danny Cox. The fourth wicket fell at 166 and thereafter the innings fell away with Stow all out off the first ball of the 52nd over. Durham took 4 for 57 off 15 overs and Anil 4 for 60 off 14 overs, well justified returns for their efforts.
The visitors bowled well early on but Sat Chaggar and Sam Bragg put on 35 before Sam was bowled for 9. Sat followed soon after but Jas Cahggar and Mark LLoyd put on 69 in good time before Jas was run out for a composed 35. Mark followed next ball for 33and a further wicket fell at 129 before Durham Bhogal with some ferce hitting and Danny Cox in a composed first innings of the season added 45 at a good pace. Again two wickets feel in quick succession but Anil capped a good personal match with 21 not out to see Park home with 4 balls to spare. All in all a good team effort and a nice match which was well contested..
As usual their were other highlights, this being the 4th XI! Such as having to ask the player coming out to umpire if he would turn off his iPod and take the earpiece out (he was not amused!!!), and also the noise in the field whilst we were batting (a bit like the World Cup).
