On a blazing hot afternoon at the Polo Field this was always going to be a tough match given the myriad changes forced on the team in the week through unavaialbility and shuffling the teams higher up, and having to take the field with 10 men. The signs were not propitious for returning skipper Andy Jenner, playing his first match since last season following injury, but at least the toss was won and the decision to bat proved very good as Steve McCormack and Jas Chaggar posted a stand of 54 in only 11 overs. Dave Pasola joined the fun and at one point the total was 96 for 1 off 20 overs. However the Hutton spinners were exerting some pressure on a dry and slow pitch and once Pasola departed for 27 the score subsided to 107 for 6 as the young and inexperienced colts in the order succumbed, O'Dell picking up 4 for 19 including Jas for an excellent 39 to one that bounced and took the edge. Jenner managed to coax the tail to 138 all out but in the conditions and after the start the side had had, this was well below par.
In turn Hutton started quickly with an opening stand of 50, but the intoduction of slow bowlers Anil Patel and colt Anurag Sharma caused quite a few flutters in the batting as both impressed. Parks' fielding left something to be desired however but the bowlers plugged away and picked up four wickets in the innings, which lasted 30 overs, while opener Nick Watson ensured that he batted through the innings for a well made 71 to win the match. Anil ended with 3 for 37 and Anurag 1 for 44 in a promising display.
In the event losing by 6 wickets was not a disaster and the young colts (all under 15s) will have learned from the experience. With missing players back in the fold next week we can hopefully produce a correcting result against Walthamstow.
