WOODFORD WELLS v Gidea Park & Romford CC Saturday 3rd X1 on Sat 08 Jul 2006 at 1.30pm
Gidea Park & Romford CC Won 8WICKETS
After a nightmare start, due to people not turning up and then stuck in traffic the Chairman, Greg Churchill, loss the toss for the skipper, Matt Burch, and 10 man Park took the field. Later they were reduced to 9 men for 20 overs or so before Oneil wame back afterresting his injured shoulder. The Wells got off to a poor start losing 2 early wickets but thet were still scoring very heavyly on their small ground with at one stage they were on course for a massive score. However, from being 179-3 off about 25 overs with balls being dispatched everywhere, Paul Winmill (3-51) came on and proceeded to tide things up with the assistance of John Roberts (4-56) and the original score of approx 350 was happily reduced to 249 all out.
Having bowled their overs quite quickly Park were left with plenty of time to chase victory and got off to a reasonable start before Churchill was caught and bowled quite superbly which brouht Danny Rees (124) to the wicket to score his maiden hundred for the club in no time at all. So after watching Wells at one point scoring at more than 8 an over, Park brought the game back into context. Danny was well supported by Craig Bray (77 no) and indeed their 2nd wicket partnership produced 225 before Rees being leaving skipper Burch to knock off the winning runs for an 8 wicket victory.
Next week starts the 2nd half of the season with an away game at local rivals Adleigh Green.
