Gidea Park & Romford CC U15 v Woodford Wells on Wed 02 Aug 2006 at 2pm
Gidea Park & Romford CC Lost 34 runs
A friendly friendly against a good bunch of lads from Woodford Wells, who were up against a pretty good Park side who just didn't really do themselves justice. The difference was the lack of a big dominant innings from any of the Park batsman, and some more economical bowling from the Wells side. Wells batted first and wickets fell at a fairly regular pace, but after 21 overs they took advantage of the less well pitched up deliveries and proceeded to add 95 in the last 10 overs. Waleed bowled as well as you would expect. David Brett swung the ball away, and Tommy Stephen and Chris McKie looked a threat. In general the fielding was ok, but a few ones were turned to fours on a difficult outfiled. When Park replied to the 195 total, Adam McKie and David Brett did just what was asked , adding just short of 50 in the first 10 overs for no wickets. Bit then four wickets fell in the space of 4 overs, with the two openers gone and Lloyd holing out cheaply, and Andy Jones, having hit two fine fours, went when trying to the same to a straight one.It was that spell that meant the game was virtually over. Waleed and Umar held out for some time, but never got after the bowling at a rate that would be enough to put Park in with a chance. When Waleed fell with 6 overs to go the rate had risen to the 12 per over mark and it was too much to ask from the oppositions disciplined bowling. Some frenetic running and hitting led to a dismal conclusion and the honours were always with the Wells. The lack of a good slower bowler, and one decent knock from the Park batsmen was the crucial difference. Nevertheless , its better than working or sitting in front of MSN all day.
