Gidea Park & Romford CC U15 v Upminster "B" on Sun 25 Jun 2006 at 9.30am
Match was Tied
A second game in almost as many weeks against Upminster, and remarkably another tie ! Park batting first again, the seventh time in eight games, made a cautious start, losing McKie early when the score was on ten, Andrew Jones top scored with 23 well made runs, adding 25 with Lloyd Renvoize(12). But wickets fell steadily and having got to 60 in just nine overs the next 5 overs only saw 16 more runs. It looked as though the 100 target was out of reach but a cameo from Colin Campbell (12) supported by some excellent running and calm batting by debutant Tom Stephen, saw Park reach a more agreeable total of 109.
The Upminster reply followed a similar pattern, although a wicket did not fall until the 5th over by which time they'd reached 26. Upminster were up with the rate all the way but suffered a similar wobble mid innings when Colin Campbell and our other debutant , John Bunyan, took a couple of wickets with a couple of economic overs. Adam McKie bowled well in between and a valuable wicket from Jack Miles near the end helped make it even tighter. With one over left Upminster needed 7 to win with 4 wickets in hand, at which point McKie turned to the new boy Tom Stephen who bowled a brave over, taking a wicket with his 3rd ball and bowling a great line to restrict Upminster to just 6 and force the tie. A splendid game, and credit to the boys for sticking at it. Good contributions from the new boys Tom and John, a good all round contribution from Colin Campbell, and another solid innings from Andrew Jones.
