After last weekends cold drubbing at the hands of Goresbrook, this weekend could not have been more different. The weather was lovely, the hosts convivial and the match was close and exciting. Batting first, Parks new opening pair of Brett and McKie got off to a bad start with McKie out LBW second ball of the game. But David Brett and Andy Jones set up a useful platform of 48 runs and seeing off the opening bowlers. When David fell for 10, Lloyd Renvoize entered the fray and hit a blistering 34 not out, his first 24 runs all being fours. With the Park score on 98 in the 19th over, Andy Jones finally fell for 44 well collected runs, a fine knock of which he should be proud. Park finished on 105 for 3 and Upminster set about their task at a good pace. They were well up with the required rate reaching 38 off 8 overs, but then Adam McKie, as if to make up for his duck, tightened things up with two wickets, and between him and Anuarag Sharma, the brakes were put on for a short while as Upminster scored only three runs in the middle five overs of the innings. It was to prove to be a crucial spell but as Upminster started to score more briskly again, the pressure mounted on the fielding side and it was left to Joe Thompson and Nathan Bowen to bowl the last three overs between them. Joe picked up a vital wicket in his first over and bowled the last knowing that Upminster needed 8 to win, they managed 7, with a vital run saving stop by David Brett off the last ball, and the scores were tied. Park having lost fewer wickets prevailed in the end, but cricket was the winner on this fine morning.
