WICKFORD 4TH v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI on Sat 18 Jun 2011 at 1PM

Match report
Wickford batted first on a wet and slow and low pitch and faced some accurate bowling from colt Liam Neal and Park skipper Andy Jenner. The latter prted the openers and then the team's habit of dropping straightforward catches introduced itself and top scorer Taylor (27) was give an early life when in single figures. The score moved to 58 and immediately after a 20 minute rain break Jenner removed Taylor through a sharp slip catch by Graham Poultney. the bowlers plugged away with a damp ball nd the score slowly mounted but at 93 three wickes fell, two to good fielding producing run outs calmly taken, and one to Danny long in the middle of a good spell of slow bowling. the innings finsihed at 147 for 8, a reflection of the bowling and also the sluggish pitch, with Jenner taking 3 for 34 and Long 2 for 43. the rain delay meant Park had only 70 minutes and 20 overs to get the runs and the new ball bolwers for wickford were equally as accurate as Park's had been. 19 for 3 was not promising but a recovery fashioned by George Rogers and Grahanm Poultney was cut into by another 10 minute break for rain, leaving both sides realistically for bonus points to play for. Park finished on 88 for 5 off 37 overs, Rogers on a well made 46 not out(8 fours)and the highest score of the game , and the lost time (representing 8 or 9 overs) did not help either side. For Wickford Josh Sloane bowled impressively for 2 for 22 off 12 overs and Mike Brown took 2 for 15. A very good game played in the right spirit bewteen two young teams making light of very sluggish and damp conditions. A pleasure to play in the game!
