UPMINSTER 6TH v Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Saturday 5th X1 on Sat 04 Jun 2011 at 1PM
Gidea Park & Romford Cricket Club Won 66 RUNS
Match report
On a fine afternoon at Coopers School it was good to play on the astro knowing that there would be consistent bounce and pace, something lacking in the pitches generally found at 5th XI level. Park won the toss and batted and Ian Greenwood and James Perera went off at a fast pace with 40 on the board after 7 overs. However, both were out in the space of two balls, Ian for 29 and James for 13, quickly followed by two more wickets as the Upminster bowlers tightened their lines. Sanjay Panwar then took advantage of the change bowlers in company with George Bryant (18), adding 50, and hit 9 fours and 2 sixes in his 55 before feathering a catch behind. At 130 for 7 the innings ws delicately balanced but skipper Andy Jenner shepherded the tail to a final total of 175 at the end of 52 overs, finishing 22 not out. For the home side Jones took 3 for 70 off 14 overs and Marshall bolwed well for 2 for 22 with his leg spin. The Upminster reply reached 20 before a good low catch at extra cover by Danny long off Matt Creevy made the breakthrough and three further wickets fell at 36 to another good catch by Danny and two catches off Andy Jenner. Upminster defended stoutly but 58 for 6 with plenty of overs left meant a long rearguard was called for. Skipper Paul Scott hit 5 fours in a lusty innings and Marshall batted in a very organised way for 27, but two more wickets for Jenner, one for Ian Greenwood and a direct hit run out by Matt Creevy fished the game with 9 overs left to bowl, Park running out winners by 66 runs. A nice game, well contested and a pleasure to have a decent pitch!
