Woodford Wells v Gidea Park & Romford CC U13 on Sun 28 Aug 2005 at 9.30
Gidea Park & Romford CC Won 77 runs
GPR u13's rather outplayed Woodford Wells on a gloriously sunny day to round off a relatively bright year for the team. It was good to go out on a high. GPR batted first and poor David Brett recieved the straightest ball of the day and missed out on the feast of runs that was to follow, three players retired after passing 25, The McKie boys batted really well , Chris (25), Adam(38), the ever reliable Connor (28) and a relaxed Lloyd Renvoize( 25) would have retrired had he not been bowled next ball. Andy Jones and Jack Miles reached double figures with some good shots, although the latter was teased by his team mates for being the only player this year to be bowled by a girl, a fine caught and bowled as a matter of fact. The score of 177 for too much for Woodford Wells, whose own Kamikaze style of running contributed to four run outs. The pick of the bowling was Michael Pegram who took 2 for 4, and Lloyd bowled a fast spell to take 1 for 4. Andy Jones took the gloves ably so that Connor could bowl, and he managed a wicket off the last ball of the season to cap of a fine year for the lad, who has kept well, batted splendidly and now has a wicket to his name, pass him the cook book and he can do the teas next year too. :)
It's been a pleasure scoring and watching the games this year, a nicer bunch of lads you couldn't wish to meet, they all get on well and the cricket has improved measureably. Special thanks to Steve Brett for his coaching and support of the boys and all the parents for variously chipping in with a bit of umpiring and drink/biscuit provision, always welcome. Thanks also to Win for being there on friday nights and keeping the stuff going. And here's to England for winning the 4th test :) :)
